Falls Church, VA – BreakPoint Labs, a National Capital Region-based cybersecurity services firm, is pleased to announce the award of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract for the Department of Defense (DoD) in the field of cybersecurity analysis for critical infrastructure resilience.

The DoD’s Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), in conjunction with the U.S. Army, awarded BreakPoint Labs the SBIR Direct to Phase II contract in response to its need for designing and developing cyber analytics able to comprehend unstructured and/or unlabeled data to derive operationally-relevant conclusions and provide actionable information about critical infrastructures’ cybersecurity status to operators.

The DoD’s stated need is for cyber analytics that aid in securing, protecting, and defending critical infrastructures to include task-critical assets, industrial control systems, and manufacturing operational technology. These cyber analytics will assist cyber operators in focusing efforts on relevant data sets, visualizing data, and detecting malicious activity; providing a mechanism for penetration testing, modeling, and simulation, with minimal mission impact. BreakPoint Labs has a proven track record of providing advanced defensive cyber operations and analytic development, which directly align with the stated mission requirements of the DoD and U.S. Army.

“The drive to exploit current and emerging Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, data science and cloud capabilities to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of critical infrastructure delivers tremendous benefits to all areas of the nation, including our defense missions,” said Phil Lacombe, a Cyber Strategist at BreakPoint Labs and Lead Investigator for the SBIR.  “Securing those infrastructures from cyber attack is an absolute priority, and this project directly supports that priority.”

Falls Church, VA – BreakPoint Labs, a National Capital Region-based cybersecurity services firm, is pleased to announce its award of a multi-year cybersecurity and penetration testing services Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to support the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG).  The solicitation was executed under the General Services Administration (GSA) IT Schedule 70 for Highly Adaptive Cybersecurity Services (HACS).

The HHS OIG executes their mission through a nationwide network of audits, investigations, and inspections, including penetration testing, one of BreakPoint Labs’ core capabilities. Besides the Washington DC-based Headquarters, HHS is comprised of 11 operating divisions to include the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a result of the advanced penetration testing support, the HHS OIG will be able to assess the effectiveness of information system security controls in place, and measure how well systems are protected when subject to various types of cyber attacks.

“At BreakPoint Labs we strive to ‘Break the Cycle’, which means providing high-end security services using extremely dedicated personnel to deliver impactful and lasting improvements to an organization’s overall security posture” said Andrew McNicol, BreakPoint Labs Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and business lead for cybersecurity assessments.  The cybersecurity industry has a focus on ‘running tools’ or ‘completing a checklist’, which unfortunately misses a lot of vulnerabilities that attackers abuse. BreakPoint Labs’ testing methodology accounts for the all-too common technology shortcomings, and focuses largely on manual testing and abusing technology like a human operator, rather than a script or tool. BreakPoint Labs is excited to bring this level of support and technical depth to the Department’s critical mission, and to help them enumerate high risk vulnerabilities and/or misconfigurations before the adversary.”
